Exposed
Why do I fear the words I write?
Shedding sunshine on thought’s night.
Expose my soul to public view,
Feel it is something I must do.
Have long avoided public scrutiny.
Why keep my secrets to myself?
In tiny room on dusty shelf,
So much safer than on the stage,
Of written words upon a page.
My thoughts uneasily declared.
When thoughts are permanent in ink,
One must gauge what others think.
I must trust that human nature,
Will be gentle on God’s creature.
Will not let laughter open wounds.
The writer’s world—Russian Roulette,
Unsure of feedback you will get.
Hoping readers’ first reaction
Will bring release and satisfaction.
The risk you take is daring.
Despite the risk, the chance I take,
Writing words—for writing’s sake--
Indifference, would cause concern,
If my ramblings you should spurn.
I might not let true feelings spill
Out of computer—modern quill.
I might retreat to man’s safe cave,
And asphalt over feeling pave.
The safety of my mind!
